Smat Suwannapong was born in 1964 in Chonburi, Thailand. 

He acquired his graduate degree in Painting, Sculpture and Graphic Arts at Silpakorn University. Currently he is a full-time lecturer at Visual Arts Department, Bangkok University.

Smat Suwanapong’s works reflect his interest in the beauty of colours, textures and structural components of architecture, the way that sunlight falls on the surface of different materials, blending with the decorative patterns that characterise traditional Thai architecture.  The beauty of stained glass and gold-leafed lacquer that adorn Thai temples fascinates him. 

With his selective eye, he decides to use colour as the major focus in his paintings.
