Sha Ying

Sha Ying was born in China, studied photography and television at Beijing Broadcasting Institute. He left China in 1991 and lived in Japan and Hongkong before settling down in Singapore in 1995 to become a Singapore Citizen.

 

The documentary photographs recorded by Sha Ying would have been some of the earliest records of rural China before 1991.

 

Shandong and Shaanxi in the north and central China are relatively rugged compared to the softer landscape of Zhejiang and Jiangxi. Much of these landscapes and lifestyle are now replaced by modern construction and urban development.
