Aming Prayitno

Aming Prayitno (1943-2023) was born in Surakarta, also known as Solo, a city of historic importance, on the Indonesian island of Java. The 18th-century ‘Keraton Kasunanan’ palace was the royal family’s residence and today is a museum of heirlooms. 

 

Aming studied painting at STSRI - ASRI (Indonesian Visual Art College - Indonesian Visual Art Academy). Since 1970, he taught at STSRI now known as ISI Yogyakarta (Indonesian Art Institute of Yogyakarta).

 

To appreciate Aming’s paintings, one must understand that his style reflects rich history and texture of the old culture of Java.
