Goh Beng Kwan
|Born in Indonesia in 1937. He is a pioneer in his style of abstraction and collage.
For his contribution to modern art in Singapore he was awarded the Cultural Medallion by the Singapore government in 1989.
In Goh’s younger days he was tutored by Singapore pioneer artists and among them was the late Chen Wen Hsi who recognized Goh’s style of combining brush work, colour and collage.
This style was further developed upon Goh’s return from USA where he encountered artists who influenced him in the use of vibrant colours and textures and observing nature.
Until this day Goh considers nature as his studio, to the extent that his best works are executed directly from his response to his surroundings.
Goh Beng Kwan’s works is the best example of an artist using vibrant colours, be it works on paper or collage on canvas.
