Ang Yian Sann

Singapore

Born 1964, Singapore, Yian Sann studied industrial design at Lasalle-SIA College of the Arts. He
obtained Master of Design (Industrial Design) at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Australia in 1998. In 1988, he won Top Award in the United Overseas Bank Painting of the Year in Singapore.

The combination of exposure to both art and industrial design allows Yian Sann to work on both painting and 3D art.

His 3D works always show his sense of humour and awareness in the ever changing environment.

Yian Sann’s works on paper represent the contemporary interpretation of depth and dimension.  Yian Sann takes advantage of the translucence of rice paper and applies gestural colours on separate layers placing them one on top of the next, allowing the colour of the under layer to come through.  Thus his works give rise to a new dimension to intrigue the viewer.

‘Sliding’ successfully suggests the idea of a Chinese screen in its timelessness.
