Shifang

China

Shifang lives and works in Shanghai, China. His ink work reflects years of control and practice in the understanding of Chinese ink technique. The works below is an innovative style developed by artists in the late 1980s, this movement began with artists in Shanghai.

These artists developed this ‘photographic’ ink style as a statement to announce a change in art of their era; to break from tradition.

The basis message in Shifang’s works remains that of landscape, but the technique is far from traditional. Shifang ‘plays’ with ink on paper.

He controls the ‘spread’ of ink by mere touches of the brush to either dilutes or intensify the tone.
